According to risk management firm Black Kite, mid-sized businesses face a unique dilemma: they must simultaneously manage their roles as both suppliers and customers, a balance that proves difficult to maintain. Data from the firm reveals that these medium-sized enterprises were the targets of approximately 73% of all ransomware attacks between 2023 and the first half of 2026. A Tuesday report highlighted that the manufacturing sector was hit hardest, comprising over 25% of these victims. Additionally, nearly 30% of mid-market organizations were found to have at least one known vulnerability that attackers successfully exploited. These findings underscore the growing pressure on mid-market firms, which must satisfy strict accountability demands from large clients while lacking the necessary staff to oversee the vast network of their own suppliers.
