Researchers have uncovered a new Android malware strain named MagicAd that overwhelms compromised devices with intrusive advertisements. The threat is notable for its ability to bypass Android’s standard security limitations, employing sophisticated methods to display ads even after the user has terminated the associated application. This malware was discovered embedded in over 50 games and utilities hosted on GetApps, Xiaomi’s official app store. The infected applications typically remain available for approximately one month before being quietly removed and replaced with fresh, compromised versions.
